NACCL-38 Call for Papers

The 38th North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL-38) will be held from May 8–10, 2026 at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., USA. Launched in 1989, the NACCL conference series has become a major academic platform for Chinese language and linguistics research in North America and beyond.

NACCL-38 invites abstracts in all subfields of Chinese linguistics, including but not limited to:

  • Syntax, Morphology
  • Phonetics, Phonology
  • Semantics, Pragmatics
  • Computational Linguistics
  • Sociolinguistics
  • Psycholinguistics
  • Corpus Linguistics
  • Dialectology, Historical Linguistics
  • Language Acquisition and Pedagogy

The presentation formats include 20-minute talks and poster sessions. Abstracts and presentations can be given in either English or Mandarin Chinese. Additionally, two workshops on research methods will be conducted on the first day of the conference.

Conference Theme:

The theme of NACCL-38 is “Chinese Language and Linguistics in the Age of AI”. The interdisciplinary dialogue between modern linguistics and AI has been a topic of research for decades. Recent breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence are transforming research approaches and opening new frontiers in Chinese linguistics. We encourage submissions related to this theme, though abstracts outside of this scope will also be fully considered.

Abstract Submission:

Submission Guidelines:

  • Abstracts should fit on one page (Letter size or A4), with 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins and 11 pt font (or equivalent font size in Chinese, such as 5号字).
  • Abstracts should be within 500 words (English) or 800 characters (Chinese).
  • Abstracts must be anonymous, without any identifying author information.
  • Authors may submit one single-authored and one co-authored abstract.
  • Abstracts must be submitted electronically via EasyChair (PDF format only). Email and hardcopy submissions will not be considered.
  • For EasyChair submissions, follow these steps:
    1. If you're a first-time user, please register.
    2. On the submission page, enter author names in the format First_name Last_name (for Chinese names written in Chinese characters, use Family_name Given_name).
    3. Enter the title of your abstract. Chinese titles do not need to be translated.
    4. Upload your PDF file using the “Choose File” option.
    5. In the “Comments” field, type “The abstract has been uploaded.” Do not enter your abstract text here.
    6. Indicate your academic affiliation and that of co-authors (separated by semicolons).
    7. Choose your preferred presentation format: "talk", "poster", or "either".
    8. Provide 3 to 5 keywords for your study, separated by semicolons.
