Local Travel

The subway system in Washington, DC is called the Metro. There are two metro stations of equal distance to the conference venue: Foggy Bottom-GWU station & Farragut West station. The main metro station at the University is Foggy Bottom-GWU.

Airports Nearby

There are three airports in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
 

1. The main airport with both domestic and international flights is Dulles International Airport (IAD). It is conveniently connected to the metro system, which goes directly to the Foggy Bottom-GWU and Farragut West stations.

  • Washington Dulles International Airport is connected directly to Metro’s Silver Line. Follow the signs to the underground walkway, which is approximately five minutes from the terminal.
  • Board the Metro Silver Line toward New Carrollton (please check the direction of the metro before boarding)
  • Exit at Foggy Bottom-GWU

 

2. The closest airport with mostly domestic flights is Reagan National (DCA). It is also conveniently connected to the metro system.

  • Start at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Station
  • Board the Metro Blue Line train toward Largo Town Center (please check the direction of the metro before boarding)
  • Ride 6 stops
  • Exit at Foggy Bottom-GWU

 

3. The Baltimore/Washington Airport (BWI) is the farthest of the three. It is connected to the Amtrak train system, which goes to Washington, DC, and then you will need to transfer to the metro.

  • Start at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport station
  • Board the Amtrak Acela train (#2109 to Washington Union Station)
  • Exit train at Washington Union Station
  • Transfer to Metro (follow signs for Red line train)
  • Board the Metro Red Line train toward Twinbrook
  • Ride 3 stops
  • Exit train at Metro Center
  • Transfer to the Metro Silver Line toward Wiehle Reston East
  • Ride 3 stops
  • Exit train at Foggy-Bottom GWU
