Kakehashi Awards - Pending

As in the years before the Covid-19 pandemic, we may be able to offer an additional award called the Kakehashi Award with the full sponsorship of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan, Washington DC. 

  • The prize of the Kakehashi Award is an all-expenses-paid group tour of Japan possibly early in 2022. This tour is fully sponsored and organized by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan, Washington DC.
  • One College-Division finalist will be selected from all eligible* college-division finlists by the Final Round judges on the basis of his/her suitability to represent the United States as a “friendship ambassador” and on the merit of the topic and delivery of his/her Final Round talk. 

*The awardee of the Kakehashi award must be a US citizen or a permanent resident of the United States. In addition, the awardee may not have participated in any previous Kakehashi or a similar Japanese-government-funded program. Nor can she/he have stayed or studied in Japan for more than one year cumulatively.
