Kakehashi Award

About the Award

Note: The award will not be offered in 2021.

For several years, the Japanese Program's J.LIVE Talk event has included an additional award called the Kakehashi Award with the full sponsorship of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan, Washington, D.C.

The prize of the Kakehashi Award is an all-expenses-paid group tour of Japan. This tour is fully sponsored and organized by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan.

One finalist is selected each year from all eligible finalists by the Final Round judges on the basis of his/her suitability to represent the United States as a “friendship ambassador” and on the merit of the topic and delivery of his/her Final Round talk.

Eligibility

The awardee of the Kakehashi award must be a US citizen or a permanent resident of the United States. In addition, the awardee may not have participated in any previous Kakehashi or Japanese-government-funded programs. Nor can she/he have stayed or stayed or studied in Japan for more than one year cumulatively.
