2017 Schedule

Any student who wishes to participate should follow these steps:

Preliminary Round


September 1 - October 4, 2017

Step 1

1.     Make sure you are eligible to apply. See the Eligibility criteria.

2.     Fill out this online application form accurately.

Step 2

1.     When you complete the online application, you will be prompted to download the J.LIVE Talk 2017 Endorsement Form. Download it, complete Section I, and email it to your Japanese teacher who will endorse your application.

2.     Ask the teacher to complete Section II and send it to [email protected] by October 4, 2017.

Step 3

1.     Upload your entry video by October 4, 2017. Please visit Video Guidelines under the Preliminary Round section for instructions.

Notification of the results of the Preliminary Round

October 9, 2017

The Contest Committee will announce the names of the contestants whose video submissions will move to the Semifinal Round.

Notification of the results of the Semifinal Round selection by a second panel of judges

October 16, 2017

The Contest Committee will notify the contestants who move onto the Final Round.

Notification of the students' intention to participate in the Final Round

October 18, 2017

Selected contestants must notify the Contest Committee of their intention to participate in the Final Round by filling out the Final Round participation form and emailing it to [email protected].

NOTE: Contestants who are not selected to compete in the Final Round are encouraged to attend as audience.

Deadline to send required materials

November 1, 2017

Finalists must submit his/her presentation PowerPoint and a short abstract in English (150 words) to [email protected]. See the Final Round Guidelines for details.

Final Round

November 5, 2017

The Final Round will be held at the Marvin Center Amphitheater (3rd floor), on the George Washington University campus.
