Assigned Institutions

The two assigned institutions for the Gold Award and Silver Award are the Naganuma School and Nanzan University.

About the Naganuma School

The Naganuma School, a well-known Japanese language school in Japan, was founded in 1948 by Naoe Naganuma. Originally, almost all the students were missionaries and diplomats from America. Currently, approximately 600 students from 50 countries study at the school. The Naganuma School is located in Nampeidai-cho, a historically and culturally rich area in Shibuya Ward, and is surrounded by many embassies.

The Naganuma School utilizes the “Naganuma Method” (a systemized Q&A method) which was developed by its founder. The method is used for all levels, from the Beginning level all the way through to the Superior, to build up communicative Japanese language skills.

The Naganuma School has been highly acclaimed not only for successful 70 years of language education, but the high quality of teaching method as well as its teaching staff.

About Nanzan University

Established in 1946, Nanzan University is a leading private university located in Nagoya, Japan. Its Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) was established at Nanzan over forty years ago, and its comprehensive program encompasses not only language related studies but also courses in area studies as well as courses in traditional arts. In addition to CJS’s dedicated language teachers, specialists from the social sciences and the humanities from the University’s regular faculties contribute to the teaching in CJS. The main goal of the CJS is to offer intensive Japanese language and culture courses so that students can develop fluency in Japanese and also deepen their understanding of Japan’s culture. By offering various content courses, the CJS also aims to increase students’ ability to think critically and express their opinions about a range of global issues.

Summer Japanese Program at Nanzan: The CJS is now offering an intensive summer program of the same quality as its rigorous regular Japanese program. From 2018, we will expand the program to accommodate more students for longer, up to eight weeks. It is made up of three courses; 8-Week Intensive Japanese, 4-Week Intensive Japanese+4-Week Internship and 4-Week Intensive Japanese.
